Every year, bus operators have to spend huge sums on repairing shattered bus shelters – completely unnecessarily. It is perfectly possible to install vandal proof panels in existing bus shelters. Hammerglass panels are flexible and can be adapted for installation in curved profiles and arched roofs. Their low weight makes replacement significantly easier compared to tempered glass. Once installed, you eliminate the problem of glass breakage – and future maintenance becomes minimal. While Hammerglass is more expensive than regular glass, it eliminates the need for costly replacements due to breakage or graffiti damage. The cost of replacing ordinary, tempered glass with Hammerglass pays for itself after ONE single replacement. From a life-cycle cost perspective, Hammerglass is a highly worthwhile investment – especially when including all operational and maintenance costs. For a more budget-friendly, vandal-resistant alternative, we recommend X2 panels – a more affordable option, but without the unique Hammerglass coating.

BUS SHELTERS
Vandal-proof solutions for new and older bus shelters
"We save more than 10.000 EUR a month"
In a pilot project in Stockholm, about 20 bus shelters were fitted with unbreakable Hammerglass.
"We have chosen the bus shelters that were most affected by vandalism and which needed the glass replacing every two weeks. Since the installation of Hammerglass panels, we have not had to replace any glass at all! We expect to have saved more than 10.000 EUR a month on these 20 bus stops alone - unimaginable figures really."
Nobina will now continue to replace glass with Hammerglass panels in their bus shelters:
"It is much nicer for the staff to wipe off graffiti than to walk around in broken glass with heavy panels. In addition to the working environment and finances, there is a third factor that is at least as important, namely that our customers can wait for the bus in a clean, undamaged bus shelter. We are definitely very satisfied and would like to invite other transport companies to come and see us for themselves." (Andreas Mehlqvist, Nobina)
REPLACEMENT OF GLASS OR A COMPLETELY NEW HAMMERGLASS BUS SHELTER?
Our own Hammerglass bus shelter is modular in design and can be adjusted in size according to requirements. The bus shelter is delivered as a kit – with or without its own concrete plinth – comprising a robust steel structure, fitted with either Hammerglass or cost-effective X2 panels – that cannot be broken or kicked in.
- Modular system with unlimited length
- Hammerglass is 300 times stronger than glass
- Cost-effective X2 panels – more than 100 times stronger than glass
- No glass breakage
- Half the weight of glass, no unnecessarily heavy lifting
- The panels can not be kicked out
- Hammerglass unique nano-treated surface is very easy to clean, most known detergents can be used
- Hammerglass/X2 do not burn – unlike acrylic/plexiglass, the panels are self-extinguishing
- Supplied with or without concrete plinth
IN CASE OF SCRATCHES
Is Hammerglass susceptible to scratches? Both ordinary glass and Hammerglass can be scratched, but despite its hard coating, Hammerglass is a softer basic material than glass. To further reduce the effects of scratching, we have designed cross-patterned panels with a pre-printed Scratch pattern, that effectively conceal any scratches.
TINTED PANELS AND CUSTOM PRINT DESIGNS
Sometimes standard glass is not enough, you simply want "that little extra". The Hammerglass panels can be provided with specially developed prints, offering limitless scope for customised design. For bus shelters, we particularly recommend screen printing. Hammerglass panels can, for example, be provided with municipal coats of arms, or close-fitted patterns in different colours. It is also possible to digitally print photographs and artistic motifs, but this places slightly higher demands on fixtures and encapsulation of the print. With larger series of panels there is the possibility of producing colour-impregnated Hammerglass.
